Super Bowl LVIII Appearance — February 2024, Lost to Kansas City in OT, 22–25

The 49ers led the Chiefs in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVIII. The Chiefs tied it. Overtime was played. Patrick Mahomes drove the length of the field. The Chiefs won 25–22. The 49ers have now lost the Super Bowl three times in franchise history. Three of those losses involved Patrick Mahomes.

ContactOvertime. It has the 49ers’ file. The file has multiple entries involving the same opposing quarterback. The entries end the same way. The file remains open.

A Super Bowl Win — Three Losses Since 1994, The Plan Has the Receipts

The 49ers last won the Super Bowl following the 1994 season. They have appeared three more times since — after the 2019, 2022, and 2023 seasons — and lost all three. K. Shanahan has been to three Super Bowls as coordinator or head coach. He has won zero. The plan is excellent. The Lombardi Trophy has not accepted any of its receipts.

ContactK. Shanahan. He has the plan. The plan has a very good regular-season record. The plan is working on its postseason record.

Missing: The 2024 Season — Record 6–11, Worst Since the 2003 Raiders

Following Super Bowl LVIII, the 49ers went 6–11 in 2024 — the worst record by any team coming off a Super Bowl loss since the 2003 Oakland Raiders. McCaffrey played four games. Aiyuk, Mason, and Williams all went to injured reserve. The 49ers then went 12–5 in 2025. The bounce-back has been documented.

ContactThe 2024 season. It is filed. It had very few healthy players. It did not make the playoffs. It is the year between the Super Bowl and the bounce-back.
Help Wanted

Brock Purdy — Consistency Sought, 2025 Playoff Exit Was 6–41

Purdy led the 49ers to a 12–5 record in 2025 and an upset wild-card win over the defending-champion Eagles. He then faced the top-seeded Seahawks in the divisional round and lost 6–41 — the 49ers’ second-worst postseason loss in franchise history. He had a remarkable regular season. He had a difficult January.

ContactB. Purdy. He was undrafted. He reached the Super Bowl. He upset the defending champions in the wild card. He then lost 6–41. He is the starter.

Official Statement: The 49ers Went 12–5 in 2025, Beat the Eagles, and Are Not Finished

The 49ers announce that a 12–5 record, a wild-card win over the defending NFC champions, and a McCaffrey/Kittle/Warner/Bosa roster constitute a foundation. The 41–6 divisional loss to Seattle has been reviewed. K. Shanahan has reviewed it. The Faithful have been informed that the review’s conclusions will be implemented.

Top Ten List

A full team-specific Top Ten list. Completely deadpan. Treats every item with total journalistic seriousness. The list below is a sample. Yours will be specific to your team’s particular situation, history, and ongoing triumphs and disasters.

Top Ten Things You Can Buy for $24 at Levi’s Stadium
  • 10.One craft beer, brewed somewhere within a 15-mile radius of the stadium, as required by Santa Clara county ordinance and personal branding. It costs $24. So does the next size down.
  • 9.A parking spot in a lot so far from the stadium it has its own area code. The shuttle comes eventually. Bring snacks. Bring patience. Bring a book.
  • 8.One and a half garlic fries, individually priced. The stadium rounds up. You will not notice until you count them in the car.
  • 7.A Brock Purdy jersey, still tagged “Mr. Irrelevant” in small print near the collar. It was a joke in 2022. Nobody’s laughing now. The jersey doesn’t know the difference.
  • 6.A commemorative photo of Christian McCaffrey, standing upright, fully healthy, smiling. The photo was taken in training camp. Frame it. Cherish it. Do not check the injury report.
  • 5.One (1) George Kittle bobblehead that headbutts on command. It does this more consistently than most linebackers who’ve tried to tackle the real one.
  • 4.A “Welcome Mike Evans” button, freshly printed. Tampa’s loss. Santa Clara’s gain. The pin comes with a small asterisk nobody asked for.
  • 3.A single ticket stub from a January game that ended in exactly the way you feared. The Bay Area weather was perfect that day. It usually is. That’s not the problem.
  • 2.Four months of this subscription. Which includes 16 pieces of premium satirical content, a trivia game, classified ads, a children’s book, and a staff that has watched enough 49ers January football to know exactly which face you’re making right now.
  • 1.A view of the bay from the upper deck, completely free of charge, and somehow still the best deal in the building. Kyle Shanahan is down there somewhere, drawing something up. He’ll figure it out. He usually does. Eventually.

Vintage Gold Helmet — PRISTINE — “The Montana Era”
    Seller: candlestick_ghosts
    Condition: Historically Significant
A classic gold helmet from a time when we actually won Super Bowls instead of just making it there and losing in heartbreaking fashion. It reminds us of a time when the offense didn’t stall in the fourth quarter.
    $1,981
    current bid
Deflated Football — FLATTENED — “The Overtime Offense”
    Seller: shanahan_playcalling
    Condition: Philosophically Compromised
A completely flattened, deflated football. It perfectly represents our offense during overtime in Super Bowl LVIII. We got the ball first, we drove down the field, and then we kicked a field goal. Patrick Mahomes did the rest.
    $25
    current bid
Offensive Play Sheet — FOLDED — “The Paper Airplane”
    Seller: kyle_shanahan_genius
    Condition: Cautiously Optimistic
Kyle Shanahan’s pristine offensive play sheet, folded into a paper airplane. It’s filled with brilliant, complex schemes that work perfectly until the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, at which point it takes a nosedive.
    $28
    current bid
    Heavy Iron Padlock — LOCKED — “28-3”
    Seller: super_bowl_li_ghosts
    Condition: Structurally Unsound
A massive iron padlock shaped like the numbers 28-3. It’s a reminder that no lead is safe, especially not in the Super Bowl. We know it wasn’t the 49ers, but the playcaller was the same. The ghosts followed him here.
    $28
    current bid
Super Bowl XXIX Ring — GLEAMING — “1994”
    Seller: steve_young_magic
    Condition: Historically Haunted
A gleaming silver Super Bowl XXIX ring from 1994. We stare at it every time Patrick Mahomes gets the ball back with two minutes left. We have five rings. We just haven’t won one in over thirty years.
    $1,994
    current bid
Mr. Irrelevant Trophy — SEALED — “The Franchise”
    Seller: brock_purdy_system
    Condition: Emotionally Unavailable
A pristine, sealed Mr. Irrelevant trophy. Brock Purdy went from the last pick in the draft to a highly paid franchise quarterback. Is he a system QB? Is he elite? Does it matter when we still can’t beat the Chiefs?
    $262
    current bid
Foam Finger — WORN — “We’ll Get ’Em Next Year”
    Seller: levis_stadium_faithful
    Condition: Enduringly Loyal
A slightly worn red and gold foam finger. We might complain about the playcalling, the injuries, and the heartbreaking losses, but we’ll still wave this thing until our arms fall off. Maybe this is the year.

    NFL Competition Committee Proposes

Four new proposed NFL rules, each presented with complete regulatory seriousness. The title is always “THE NFL COMPETITION COMMITTEE PROPOSES:” followed by the rule name. Three to five sentences of deadpan satire. A new batch of four rules, every seven-week cycle.

    Official Proposal 1 of 4 — NFL Competition Committee — 2026 Season

    The NFL Competition Committee Proposes:
    The Feelings Rule

Effective immediately, any player who is visibly sad after a penalty will be allowed to challenge the call on emotional grounds. The replay official will review the player’s expression in slow motion. If certified “genuinely devastated” by a panel of three therapists stationed in the press box, the penalty is waived. The Dallas Cowboys have already filed 847 pre-season challenges.

    Official Proposal 2 of 4 — NFL Competition Committee — 2026 Season

    The NFL Competition Committee Proposes:
    Mandatory Honesty From Coaches

Starting in 2026, head coaches will be required to answer one post-game question with complete honesty. The question will be selected at random by a wheel spin. Early testing was abandoned after three coaches resigned, one cried, and Bill Belichick’s honest answer was legally classified as a threat.

    Official Proposal 3 of 4 — NFL Competition Committee — 2026 Season

    The NFL Competition Committee Proposes:
    The Participation Fumble

In an effort to make fumbles less discouraging, any fumble recovered by the opposing team will now be referred to as an “unintentional lateral.” The player who fumbled will receive a certificate of effort. The team that recovered it will receive six points. Both outcomes will be celebrated equally on the official broadcast.

    Official Proposal 4 of 4 — NFL Competition Committee — 2026 Season

    The NFL Competition Committee Proposes:
    Announcer Accuracy Ratings

All play-by-play announcers will now be graded in real time by a panel of former players. Phrases such as “he just wanted it more,” “that’s a football player right there,” and “you cannot teach that” will trigger an automatic fine of $500 per occurrence. Early projections suggest the league will be debt-free by Week 3.

    30¢

Per Day. For Every Team. That Is All We Are Asking.

$9 per month…just 30 cents / day. That works out to be 3 dimes exactly, or a quarter and a nickel. And it is no longer just one team — that 30 cents covers full articles and Bonus Content for all 32 NFL teams in the network. We are asking you to spend the cost of approximately nothing to have your suffering (and everyone else’s) witnessed, documented, and returned to you in a funnier format than it arrived.

Other Things You Could Buy for 30¢
( If For Some Reason You Really and Truly Didn’t Want to Laugh Today )

    1. A quarter at a vending machine, with a nickel left over. That nickel is yours to keep. It is the only refund this list offers.
    2. Just under a third of a gumball from a machine that still exists somewhere in 1987.
    3. The look on someone’s face when you tell them you subscribe to a satirical NFL newsletter that covers all 32 teams. That look is free. The newsletter is 30 cents a day.
    4. A little over a third of a postage stamp. Stamps are about 80¢ now. Your 30¢ covers roughly the top third. This is not enough to mail anything to anyone. This subscription delivers considerably more — for every NFL team.
    5. About three-quarters of a birthday candle. The kind from the dollar store 10-pack. It will burn for a little over a minute. This subscription burns considerably longer, covers every NFL team, and produces significantly more joy and marginally less wax.
    6. 0.00002% of your team’s starting quarterback’s daily salary. He earns more between breakfast and the first snap than you will spend on this subscription in a year. This year that figure also covers 31 other starting quarterbacks’ teams. We thought you should know that. We are not sure why. It felt relevant.
    7. Nothing at a parking meter in any American city built after 1990. The meter will reject your 30 cents. We will not reject your 30 cents. We will give you seven weeks of content for it — for every NFL team.
    8. A shot glass of gasoline, which might be just enough to get you to an ATM to take out $9 for your first month of All-Access. The math works. The metaphor also works. Please do not drink the gasoline.

Hey — you’ve made it this far. You’ve looked at all seven weeks of bonus content you’ll be receiving — for all 32 NFL teams, not just this one. You’ve also seen that you’ll be getting daily, full-length headline articles from the entire network — every side article, too. Obviously you love your team with a passion to have lasted this long and smiled this much.

    Yep. We can see you.

There’s nothing left to do but spend the 30¢ / day and have this feeling — for every NFL team — last the whole year through.

I mean really — what more is there to think about? Do you want to smile today (and every day) or not?

“By subscribing you acknowledge that you are a fan in good standing, that you have suffered, that you will continue to suffer, and that $9 per month is a reasonable fee for having that suffering — and the suffering of 31 other NFL fanbases — witnessed and documented with the respect it deserves. Cancel anytime. Your team will not cancel anything. Neither will the other 31. They will all be here next season. And the season after that.”
